The following article was printed in the February 2004 AARP newsletter.  It freely acknowledges that 37 percent of citizens age 65 and older own firearms.

Though many seniors hate to admit it, as we age we are less able to physically defend yourself against younger and stronger assailants.  Having a firearm could mean the difference between life and death.

AARP has long been a supporter of anti gun and anti hunting causes, and contributes a large portion of its membership's money to these organizations.  If you belong to AARP and take advantage of the many benefits and discounts that come with membership, maybe it's time you ask why they are feeding you with one hand, and stabbing you in the back with the other.

When I asked that question a couple of years ago, I received a letter from their president, stating that they were "just carrying out the wishes of their members".  Recently, one of our members called and asked a similar question and was told that the members have no say over policy decisions made by the board of directors.

It seems hypocritical to benefit from AARP membership while letting them use your membership dues to take away your right to own a firearm.  Perhaps it's time to let them know how you feel, and demand change in their leadership.  Click on this link to contact them via e-mail, or send them a letter at the following address:
